Welcome to Friends of Pediatrics

Friends of Pediatrics (FOP) is a registered Non-Governmental Organization which was founded in 1998 to assist underprivileged Belizean children with obtaining tertiary healthcare. The organization has formed alliances with hospitals abroad, which are willing to accept needy children and perform complex operations not available locally, with no medical expense to their families. Transportation and lodging, however, are not free of cost and the majority of parents of these sick children cannot afford to pay these expenses.

We are here to assist the parents in need with the financial support necessary to cover these expenses. We invite specialists to visit Belize to screen and select children in need of treatment abroad and to train local surgeons in performing specialized surgeries.

Only a few years ago, there was little or no hope for Belizean children with heart disease, brain tumors, or any other child with a disease for which no treatment was available. We have decided to take a stand to save the lives of children who are deprived of necessary healthcare, merely because of their parents’ financial status.
